I was lucky enough to secure a week-long work experience placement with Miller in the summer of 2018, giving me a perfect insight into London insurance life and what it’s like to work for a leading specialist insurance broker.

When I then found out about Miller’s Apprenticeship Scheme on LinkedIn I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me. My application was successful and I joined Miller’s Property & Casualty team as an Account Handler in September 2019.

I am very grateful to have such a friendly, patient and helpful team.

Responsibility from day one 

My role involves monitoring, tracking and performing checks on firm orders coming in from clients. I also prepare supporting documentation, make amendments where needed and send Evidence of Covers to clients.

During my first six months I’d passed the Chartered Insurance Institute’s London market essentials exam, which gave me a great grounding in the market, key principles of insurance and the terminology my team and colleagues around me were using. 

I found this a really fulfilling way to learn and am now working towards the Award in London Market Insurance qualification.

Teaming with support 

I am very grateful to have such a friendly, patient and helpful team. I feel really engaged in my role and feel really valued by my team. Help is always on hand if there’s ever anything I’m struggling with and I continue to learn a lot from the talented team around me.

I would highly recommend the apprenticeship scheme here at Miller as you have the opportunity to start a career in a very well-respected industry and are given responsibility from day one, which was something that really appealed to me as a young person! Already after 4 months I feel very much a part of Miller and my team especially.
