Miller worked with a Canadian retail broker to win the general liability insurance, including sexual abuse/ molestation and full trampoline liability coverage, for the governing body of gymnastics within a Canadian province.
The insured’s key exposures are molestation of athletes by coaches and quadriplegic injury claims arising out of their trampolines. In the past five years, both instances have occurred and as such, there is a very limited market for these risks.
The incumbent Canadian insurer was looking to significantly restrict coverage this year and their (now) previous retail broker was unable to find any alternative terms (including via London). Our client, due to the good work Miller already do with them in the construction liability space, and our record of accomplishments and expertise in Casualty insurance, were convinced that they would only have success in partnering with Miller on this account. As a result they only approached us to help them find a solution on this important new business prospect for them. We were delighted to be able to repay that trust.
Miller overcame the various challenges this account presented and provided the coverage the Insured required, whilst working to their tight budget caused by the impact of Covid-19 which has caused their membership base to fall considerably. We did this by tailoring the placement to fit their requirements and saved money by including claims swing clauses, stretching the aggregate limits and negotiating unconventional premium structures to assist with their cash flow concerns. This was achieved despite Insurer’s requirements to have sufficient payback on the limit of liability deployed.
Since assisting on this account, we have already received another two enquiries from the Canadian broker for other governing bodies in this space, and received thanks from the President of the retail broker for our efforts in assisting them in this significant new business win.
