Miller is excited to be participating in National Inclusion Week, a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces!
At Miller, our business is built on the success of our people. That is why it is crucial that our workplace is an inclusive space where people feel confident to be their authentic selves and reach their full potential.
National Inclusion Week reflects these values and is a great opportunity for us all at Miller to demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity. The theme this year is ‘Take Action, Make Impact’. A powerful message which aims to get organisations and individuals reflecting on how exactly they can make an ongoing positive impact for inclusivity.
Inclusive employers, who organise the week, have put together daily actions that affirm inclusivity, for organisations to plan their involvement with.
Aligning with National Inclusion Week’s mission, at Miller we aspire to gain diverse insights and ideas from across the business for how we can continue to evolve and maintain an inclusive workplace, and this is reflected in the focus of our daily actions.
Our daily actions we are encouraging colleagues to undertake for National Inclusion Week:
Monday 25th September - Engage
We all have had times in our lives where we have experienced some form of exclusion and it is important to do our best to prevent anyone else feeling that same way.
Action: Start conversations with your colleagues and check in with each other regularly, whether that be in the office or on Microsoft Teams.
Tuesday 26th September - Equip
It is important for all colleagues to be aware of the resources available for support, should you ever feel anxious or isolated.
Action: A number of Miller colleagues have trained as Mental Health First Aiders, who can help provide support in challenging times. We also have an Employee Assistance Programme, which is a free, confidential and independent resource to help colleagues deal with issues affecting their daily life.
Wednesday 27th September - Empower
Diverse perspectives inspire ideas and promote progression by providing a different angle on issues. It is important to voice your opinion and get involved, as well as empower those around you to do the same.
Action: Colleagues can take this time to engage in the work that our inclusion alliances do and see if there is anything they feel they would like to get involved with.
Thursday 28th September - Embed
Inclusivity should be embedded into our everyday actions. Things that you might consider small such as pronouncing someone’s name correctly, could be a big part of making someone feel included. We should take time to reflect on how else inclusivity impacts us, as being inclusive should be something that comes naturally.
Action: Take this time to think about how inclusivity impacts your role and how your role impacts inclusivity. Reflect on if there is anything more you can do to embed inclusivity into your role.
Friday 29th September - Evolve
We should always be trying to learn more about how we can help create an on-going positive impact for inclusivity. Understanding each other is a huge aspect of inclusivity.
Action: Members of our inclusion alliances have suggested some films for us to watch to help better understand each other and why our inclusion alliances do what they do:
Culture Alliance - ‘Encanto’, ‘Lion’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
Gender Equality Alliance – ‘Barbie’, ‘Little Women’ and ‘Bend It Like Beckham’.
Pride Alliance - ‘Pride’, ‘Love Simon’ and ‘POSE’.
