Miller, the independent specialist (re)insurance broker, is pleased to announce the appointment of Satoshi Watanabe to its Japanese business, Lead Insurance Services Limited (Lead), as it continues to scale and diversify its offering in the Japanese market.

Satoshi joins as a Business Development Manager with a particular responsibility for expanding the broker’s non-marine arm. He will report to Tokinori Kono, Lead’s Head of Non-Marine Broking, who joined the business in June 2024 to help drive the build-out of Miller’s specialty capabilities in the region.

Satoshi joins from Marsh Soken, part of Marsh Japan, where he worked since 2019 and achieved a strong track record of business development in non-life insurance. He began his career with NiKKO Cordial Securities and also spent three years in a business development role at AIG General Insurance.

The appointment reflects Miller’s continued commitment to the Japanese market and the success of the acquisition of Lead in supporting Miller’s long-term growth aspirations in the region.

Miller acquired Lead in 2022, following a longstanding 25-year relationship between the two businesses. Founded in 1994, Lead is a Marine-focused broker that specialises in Hull, War Risks and Protection & Indemnity insurance.

Ron Whyte, Head of Asia at Miller, commented: “We’re excited to have Watanabe-san start at Lead as we continue to grow our Japanese offering by both scale and product line. With more than 15 years of insurance experience, Watanabe-san brings deep market expertise and local industry relationships which will prove invaluable to growing our capabilities beyond our already well established marine business. Following closely in the wake of Kono-san’s arrival in the summer, key strategic hires such as these will ensure that Japan remains at the forefront of Miller’s ambitious international objectives in Asia and beyond.”
