We caught up with Miller's Stephanie Ferrao after she was one of only 10 brokers from across the country selected to participate in the CII’s flagship talent programme.

The Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) flagship talent New Generation programme offers 40 up-and-coming insurance professionals the ability to improve the profession by working together in groups on a project that could make industry-changing progress.

Aimed at future leaders in broking, claims, underwriting and the London Market, the year-long programme provides group members with access to a range of learning opportunities.

Excitingly, Miller’s Stephanie Ferrao has been selected to be part of the 2020/21 programme!

Read on as Stephanie, a member of Miller’s Credit and Political Risks team, talks us through the application process and what the programme has in-store for her:

“I was keen to participate because it’s a rare opportunity to be involved in a high-level project where I can meaningfully contribute to the progress of the industry, whether that’s through creating new analytical insights or effecting practical change.

Having seen the scheme advertised online and internally at Miller, I applied via the CII’s website. I had to set out my insurance experience and write a case study on a key challenge to the profession and what I would do to address it. I focused on the potential reputational risk to the insurance industry associated with the recent High Court business interruption test case between the FCA and a number of insurers.

I will be working with nine other brokers from across the country to identify and complete a project that we think will make a difference to the insurance profession. We are fortunate to be supported by guidance and resources from the CII which will help us to get the most out of our research.

In addition to the main project, our group will be meeting representatives from regulatory bodies and speaking with Members of Parliament and insurance industry lobbying organisations. We will also be undergoing media training which I’m particularly looking forward to!”

A challenging programme that will draw out multiple skills over the course of the year – great news for Stephanie!
